Effective Date: 16/11/2024
Introduction: At ReReadery, we strive to provide a smooth and reliable marketplace for buying and selling books. This Refund and Return Policy outlines the conditions under which buyers may request refunds and returns for items purchased through our platform. Our policy is designed to protect both buyers and sellers, ensuring fairness and transparency, in compliance with South African law.
1.1 Consumer Protection:
In line with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA), ReReadery allows for returns and refunds in certain circumstances to ensure that buyers are protected when purchasing goods that do not meet the expectations set by the seller’s description.
1.2 Seller Responsibility:
Sellers on ReReadery must accurately describe the condition of the books they list, ensuring that the product aligns with what is advertised. The book condition must be honest and transparent, and any discrepancies could lead to a refund or return request.
2.1 Return and Refund Eligibility:
A return or refund request may be made under the following circumstances:
2.2 Request Period:
All return and refund requests must be made within seven (7) days from the date of receiving the book. After 7 days, the request may not be eligible for return or refund unless the item is deemed faulty, or the seller agrees to a return.
2.3 Return Shipping:
To be eligible for a refund, returned books must be in their original condition (i.e., not used, damaged, or marked). If the item is returned damaged, the refund may be reduced or denied based on the extent of the damage.
3.1 Refund Timing:
Once a return is approved, the refund will be processed within 10 business days of the returned item being received and inspected by the seller. The refund will be credited to the original payment method used during purchase. For Cash on Delivery (COD) transactions, refunds will be processed via bank transfer or other methods as agreed.
3.2 Partial Refunds:
In cases where the returned item is not in the original condition (e.g., damaged or missing parts), ReReadery or the seller may offer a partial refund based on the condition of the book. This will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
3.3 Non-Refundable Items:
Books that are returned after the allowable return period or items not eligible for return due to hygiene or legal reasons (e.g., certain second-hand items or explicitly marked as non-returnable) may not be refunded.
4.1 Mediation Services:
If there is a dispute between a buyer and a seller regarding a return or refund, ReReadery will offer mediation services to help resolve the issue as per the Dispute Resolution Policy. This process will involve an investigation to determine whether the return or refund request is valid based on the circumstances.
4.2 Account Suspension for Non-Compliance:
If a seller fails to comply with this Refund and Return Policy (e.g., refusing to accept a valid return, providing misleading product information, or failing to issue a refund), their account may be suspended or terminated. In such cases, ReReadery reserves the right to retain any pending payments until the dispute is resolved.
5.1 Change of Mind:
Buyers are not entitled to a refund or return simply due to a change of mind or incorrect purchase. Returns will only be accepted under the conditions listed above.
5.2 Custom or Personalized Products:
Books that have been specifically customized or are unique (such as limited editions) and were not purchased from standard listings may not be eligible for a return or refund unless defective or misrepresented.
6.1 Seller's Duty of Care:
Sellers must ensure that all books listed for sale comply with South African laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Consumer Protection Act and intellectual property laws.
6.2 False Representations:
If a seller is found to be misrepresenting products or intentionally providing false information to buyers, ReReadery may suspend or permanently terminate the seller's account and remove all listings from the platform.
6.3 Seller Support:
Sellers are encouraged to resolve any customer disputes amicably. If necessary, ReReadery will facilitate communication between the buyer and seller but will not be held responsible for the outcome.
7.1 Policy Amendments:
ReReadery reserves the right to amend or update this Refund and Return Policy at any time. Changes will be communicated to users via email or through notifications on the website. All amended policies will be effective from the date of publication.
